If your pet is fond of urinating on your carpet floor, you must be such a frustrated pet owner. Urine is so hard to remove especially if several hours have passed. If you are lucky enough, you might find that it is still fresh and therefore easier to remove. However, if the damage is a little severe, you may want to take a couple of steps to make sure that you get rid of it totally.
The first thing that you need to do is to create a poultice. Remember that these tasks involve some patience, so make sure you do things in an orderly and timely manner. If your carpet has a pad under it, check to see if the pad is also wet. Most often than not, a pad will be affected if it has been more than ten minutes.
Prepare the materials. You need some water, a book, steel, wood, or anything that can serve as weights (about ten pounds), and cotton towels that are thick.
Have you ever heard of the theory of capillary action and its principles? Here’s how it goes. Take the thick cotton towel and fold it in a way that it is bigger than the area of urine. Place it flat on the affected area. Take your chosen weight and place it directly on top of the towel. You will now have the weight on top followed by the towel, and then the carpet. The towel needs to be thick enough for all of the urine to be absorbed without reaching the top board. Leave it for about ten minutes.
After about ten minutes, take the towel off. Get a second towel and fold it like you did with the first one. Now get some water and pour it on the spot with urine. The technique here is to work your way towards the center of the spot. This way, you won’t spread the urine to other areas of the carpet. Let the water work its way inside the carpet. After thirty seconds, take your clean folded towel and place it on top of the spot with water. Leave it for thirty minutes. Make sure that during this time you won’t touch the towel and take it off its spot.
The next step involves about the same process except that you use a different mixture. When thirty minutes have passed, repeat the entire process but this time use a mixture of water and vinegar and leave it there the whole night.
When the morning comes you will be surprised to find that the carpet is now dry and odor-free. Use some carpet deodorizer if you think that there is still a foul smell. Make sure to wash all towels and keep them for future use in the same situation. You will never know when your pet will do it again and when you are going to repeat the process of pet urine removal.
